We Support: Port Moresby Nature Park
The Sir Brian Bell Foundation also continues to support Port Moresby Nature Park to help preserve our native plants and animals.
The Sir Brian Bell Foundation support Port Moresby Nature Park to help preserve our native plants and animals through the school excursion program which educates students about the nation’s unique natural environment and how to preserve it for future generations. Through these programs students take part in various programs and activities to enhance their learning. In 2024 over 30,000 students were educated at the park.
In 2019 we assisted in the opening of a new Reptile Haus exhibit which educates people on snakebites and what to do in a snakebite emergency with a goal to reduce snakebite deaths. Each year on snake bite awareness day, St John Ambulance hold special events in at the exhibit to hold special presentations to teach visitors how to identify a snake bite, first aid management including pressure immobilisation bandaging and bite prevention strategies.
In 2017 we also provided funding to open their new training and learning centre for students to participate in the park’s weekly educational programs as well as a smaller room suitable for staff training and board meetings. Additionally, we continue to support the Nature Parks School Excursion Program to educate students about the nation’s unique natural environment and how to preserve it for future generations with several thousand students attending the park each year to take part in various programs including Grade-specific Science programs.
