We Support: Gateway Children’s Fund

Gateway Children’s Fund (PNG) Inc has been operating since 1990, providing child development and community projects in the settlements of Port Moresby, creating a safer, healthier environment for children & families.

Gateway Children’s Fund goal is to improve the lives of PNG’s most impoverished children. Through their work over 250 children, each week receive basic healthcare, literacy, education, and daily meals, to improve their personal wellbeing, and that of the communities. Additionally, 50 mothers directly benefit from the program each week, while other mothers and children are helped indirectly. They work in 5 specialised areas including Infant & Maternal Care (mothers and children from birth to age 3), Preschool Wellbeing (children aged 4-6), Elementary School Prep to Grade 2 (children aged 7 – 9), Leadership Development (basic leadership and skills training), Community Projects (e.g. clean water, sanitation, electricity, community gatherings, adult literacy etc.).

The Sir Brian Bell Foundation assisted Gateway children’s Fund for 2 years running as major sponsor of their corporate fundraising initiative. In 2018, additional funding was also provided to build their classroom to help expand classes and grade levels offered.

In partnership with the Brian Bell Group, the Sir Brian Bell Foundation provided additional funding through the ‘Christmas Wish Tree’ program which was selected out of numerous charities by Brian Bell Group team members in 2017. The Sir Brian Bell Foundation additionally played a significant role in enhancing these donations by contributing K20,000 to each of the seven nominated charities that year.

Brian Bell Group, CEO, Mr. Cameron Mackellar commented, “It is with great pleasure that we donate nearly K30,000 to the Gateway Children’s Fund. This was our first year to run our Wishing Tree, and we have been overjoyed by the success. You are never truly sure if these kinds of fundraising ventures will work. However, we were amazed at the generosity of so many Papua New Guineans. This allowed us to provide over K160,000 nationwide to seven well deserving charities. No doubt many other people will truly benefit from this.”

“The Sir Brian Bell Foundation was established to honour an amazing Papua New Guinean, Sir Brian Bell. The foundation’s core is about supporting health and education initiatives nationally. Today, this donation honours our on-going commitment to Sir Brian Bell, and to the people of PNG.”

“We thank all our customers for their generosity during the Christmas period. Our “Wishing Tree” donation program is only successful if our customers get behind this to make it a success, and in our first year it has been a great success, so thank you to everyone,” commented Brian Bell Group, CEO, Mr. Cameron Mackellar.
