2020 – A Year in Review

Improving the lives of Papua New Guineans for 4 years.

Sunday, 14th June marks the 4th Birthday for the Sir Brian Bell Foundation. 4 years ago, we had high hopes to what we could achieve, we had high hopes of what the Foundation would stand for and what we would be able to do for individuals and organisations in Papua New Guinea. We had high hopes of what the Foundation would ultimately mean to people and how we would positively continue Sir Brian’s philanthropic work.

It’s not until we pause, take a moment to reflect and see just how many projects we have completed, how many partners we have worked with, how many people we have had a positive impact on, that we realise that we have exceeded our own expectations. We can see the direct and positive impact we are having in communities, and it motivates us to work harder, press harder, learn more, listen intently and act accordingly.

In July it will be ten years since Sir Brian’s passing and his legacy continues not just through the company that he built and the team members that have become extended family but through the Foundation. He was a man of integrity, hardworking, astute, and tough as nail when it came to business. While people can view his hard work and dedication in the form of the Brian Bell Group there was a far greater side to this man. His love and passion for PNG is what people all over remember him for and how his philanthropic ways changed people lives.

Sir Brian, like the rest of our family, are passionate about making sure the generations ahead are presented the opportunities through our banners of health and education to contribute to our great country in positive and constructive ways.

Our birthdays are always special at the Sir Brian Bell Foundation. We purposefully selected the 14th June to launch and coincide with World Blood Donor Day. Blood donation really is at the heart of medicine. Everyone needs blood. We need blood for mothers in labour, we need blood to treat critical illnesses like cancer, we need blood in many emergency cases. We simply need blood and it is a major part of us having a healthy lifestyle so we can share the gift of blood when we donate. Blood is the gift that keeps on living. It’s that simple. You donate, and you become the superhero (without the cape) and literally save lives. There is no greater gift than when you see the success our partners are having with our support. We certainly cannot take all the credit for our partners achievements, but we know that our funding and support is 100% being utilised in the right way and we are so blessed to be a small part of their stories.

The Sir Brian Bell Centre for Transfusion Medicine, St John Ambulance PNG, First Aid in Schools, Grass Skirt Project, Buk Bilong Pikinini, Kumura Foundation and many more organisations and individuals are partners with the Sir Brian Bell Foundation. The people that operate and are a part of these organisations have the same passion and drive we share. Importantly all of our partners embody the values of trust, honesty, hard work, and family that our founder, Sir Brian, started over 60 years ago.

While we celebrate our 4th Birthday, it is so important to recognise that none of the great work that the Sir Brian Bell Foundation achieves every day is possible without the direct partnership of the Brian Bell Group and every one of our team members.

A huge thank you to all of you,
Sir Brian Bell Foundation CEO Bronwyn Wright
