We Support: Omkolai Village Water project
In 2021 the Sir Brian Bell Foundation officially opens the Omkolai Village Water Supply Project.
Omkolai Village is located south of Kundiawa and is snuggled between some of the most mountainous landscapes of the Simbu Province. The people of Omkolai were spending a lot of their time walking up and down steep slopes to get water each day to reach water which was not clean. Our goal was to supply long term and sustainable clean water supply to the people of Omkolai which benefits 9,750people and the Gumine Secondary High School that accommodates 2000 students as well as a Police substation of 4 officers and 9 different churches including the main Lutheran Church which is also the biggest church in the community.
The project consisted of:
- Construction of 36 water tap stands
- Upgrading of reservoir dam site
- Construction of the retainer stone basket wall to prevent erosion
- Concrete Foundation
- Digging drainage system
- Transport of materials
- Awareness program of the importance of water usage and it’s benefits towards good health and hygiene
- Reforestation around the water source
- Establishing constitutional guidelines to put in place a committee that will oversee and protect the safety of these new installations
- Water Supply System which consisted of Tanks for both Reservoir and Holding areas, 400 meters of poly pipe
Brian Bell Group Goroka Branch Manager Patrick Dunks accompanied Robert Nilkare attended the opening of the project. The people of Omkolai are incredibly grateful and it makes a huge difference to their daily lives.
